eBooksVacuum Tube Amplifier Basics

Information covering basic electronics and audio provides a foundation for the hobbyist interested in vacuum tube amplifiers.

Sections cover electronic and audio information; sections are concise with many examples and illustrations.

A beginner's guide for understanding and working with vacuum tube amplifier circuits including basic electronic knowledge and circuits to help assemble your own amplifier, also basic audio information.

Basic electronics covers essential series and parallel voltage and current calculations using ohms law with circuit examples to understand power supply voltage and current distribution. Methods of calculating high voltage supply requirements and filament voltage requirements are explained with examples.

Vacuum tube amplifying circuits are explained in simple terms without complicated math. Math is primarily basic math and a few simple formulas all solvable with a standard calculator and presented with examples. A table of component values for the popular 12AX7 in various operating parameters simplifies amplifier stage design. Included are a few project circuits complete with circuit diagrams, parts list and layout drawings of circuits that have been tested help the reader get the feel of laying out and building amplifier circuits. Also, how to make your own professional looking panel labels on an ink-jet printer.

Hi Ed:
Just wanted to send a quick email to let you know I am enjoying, and am impressed with your Vacuum Tube Amplifiers Kindle book. I have a mild electronics background, so this is both a great review of fundamentals I'm a bit rusty at, and learning about tube amps. I hope to build one of the designs such as the 6V6 amp sometime in the future. I can tell you put a lot of effort in putting the book together, and it's very understandable to anyone with minimal electronics background.

Hi,
I just wanted to let you know that I just started reading your book and I think it is terrific!. I have bought some other books on the subject in the past, but many of them seem to have been written for the electronics engineer, or someone who already understands these topics. I hope to build very low volume guitar practice amps (I live in an apartment and dont want to annoy the neighbors) and I thought I might use some modified tube intercom units as they are small and it seems many of the tube lineups seem similar to the commercially available 1-5 watt tube guitar amps on the market. At first, after I printed your book, I thought it daunting (its a whopper) but then I realized if I read a page a day I could finish it within a year (as I practice new skills) Thanks I can't tell you enough how impressive this book is from a complete newcomer to this hobby, but it is thoroughly enjoyable to read. Best regards.
